TRIBUTE TO DATUK SHARIFAH AINI

The JB Arts Festival and the MBJB Orchestra pay tribute to the late Datuk Sharifah Aini, fondly known as ‘Kak Pah’.

Noted for a string of hits over the years including Hapuslah Airmatamu, Seri Dewi Malam, Dekatlah Padaku, Bunga Tanjung and Mak Inang Melayu, Datuk Sharifah Aini was accorded the Biduanita Negara(National Songstress) title, the country’s highest award for female artistes for her priceless contributions to the music industry, people and country. She is best remembered for her melodious voice and her signature tunes that have tugged at the heartstrings of music fans from all walks of life.

Experimental, radical and provocative, Nading Rhapsody expresses their love for the oldest legacies in Sarawak through a unique fusion of avant-garde Borneo ethnic music.They are determined to bring back the distinctive spirit of ethnic traditional folk songs by using ritual chanting, lullabies, myths and stories which have been adapted to suit the demands of contemporary music.

The American Film Showcase (AFS) brings award-winning contemporary American documentary and independent narrative films to audiences around the world, offering a view of American society and culture as seen by independent filmmakers.

Appearing at the JB Arts Festival for the 6th time, Angel Art and Dance Academy is an integrated art school specialising in innovative ethnic dance, combining creativity with spirit and dancing principles to promote traditional and cultural dance in Johor Bahru. They will be presenting 12 different dances composed and choreographed by experienced teachers and talented senior students, featuring 120 students set to colour the stage with a night of cultural, traditional and contemporary dance.

The Joy Tang Quintet is a jazz band that performs purely instrumental pieces that are a unique fusion of gospel and jazz. In hopes of a new sound, the band was formed with specific instrumentation, blending different sounds and rhythms to create an intriguing soundscape that will stir the listener spiritually from within.

Led by 11-year-old concert master Denise Mubin, Arioso Sinfonia will be presenting “Baroque Treasures” featuring Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” for one night only in Johor Bahru.

Arioso Sinfonia will be joined by Mr. Loo Bang Hean, who is widely regarded as one of Malaysia’s finest pianists.

TRIBUTE TO FARID ALI

The JB Arts Festival pays tribute to the late, legendary ‘Mr. Gambus’ Farid Ali, who passed on last December.

With a musical career that spanned over three decades, Farid left a great legacy as a composer, guitarist, gambus player and music educator. Hosted by Roger Wang, the concert will feature friends, students and musicians who have been inspired by Farid. They include Gina Panizales, Fauziah Gambus (Puteri Gambus), Steve Thornton, the A.K.A. Guitar Trio, Peter Lau, Simon Lau, Sidi Gambus, members of AkashA and more.

The Society of the Deaf, Johor (SDJO) will celebrate the International Week of the Deaf with an exciting programme aimed at encouraging unity and fellowship between all Johoreans regardless of race or religion. Join them for a fun day of fashion shows, traditional games, colouring contests and other activities, with something suitable for every member of the family.

Regency is also collaborating with The Society of the Deaf, Johor (SDJO) in celebrating the International Week of the Deaf, with programmes aimed at encouraging unity and fellowship within the deaf community regardless of race or religion.

SDJO will also be offering weekend classes on Sign Language and daily exhibitions of works by the deaf community.
